Those age-old wedding planning questions

Time for the nitty-gritty decision-making. Here's where we're (still) stuck. Wanna help us out?

1. We're throwing the biggest party we'll ever throw, and making people travel to an inconvenient location to attend. When it comes down to it, are we cheaping out if we don't have a full bar?

2. I've been to too many weddings where guests wish they'd been assigned a table and spend five minutes nervously deciding where to sit. Therefore... table assignments! So should we be social engineers and create a lively mix of people at each table, or just play it safe and put folks who know each other together?

Update: I'd love to hear your thoughts and reasoning behind your votes, too... As always, comments are open!

I voted #2 both times... because that's what we're doing. Only reason for both-- $$! We're not even doing bubbly. The tables provided by the venue only hold 6... yuck, but we don't want to pay for rentals, so assigned seats it is! We can't afford leaving a chair open.

I voted #2 on Q1 b/c that's what we did. My boss passive-aggressively complained but was rip-roaring drunk off the beer/wine/bubbly anyhow. I don't think anyone else missed the hard liquor, although I could be wrong :)

As for Q2 - I think it depends on your guests! I love meeting new people - but if Evan was seated with people he didn't know, he would have to have 3 drinks before warming up to them. That being said, as long as everyone has at least one "safety buddy" with them, they'll be fine!

For #1 we did a full bar. It was just easiest, and included in the package. I didn't care either way.

For #2, we did friends. I put my sorority sisters at two tables with each other. Mr. Newlywed's friends sat together. Family, etc etc. I didn't want anyone to ever feel uncomfortable at any point. I wanted it to be a happy experience for everyone.

I voted #2 for both.

Re: Q1, So long as there is beer, and there is wine, and there is no cash bar involved, you're good to go.

Re: Q2, if you're going with the theory that seating assignments make people more comfortable (PS - I did this too), then go ahead and place them with the people with whom they are already comfortable. People will mix and meet new people during the cocktail hour & after dinner.

A limited bar is fine as long as it's an OPEN bar. :)

Create a lively mix...but don't put too many strangers at one table--it'll be more awkward than fun for them.
