Adorning the 'maids

Please join me in gleeful exclamations of cuteness over the bridesmaid hairpieces:

(Not super-apparent here, but those white petals actually have light blue polka dots!)

No veil, thanks

Check out my fun hairpiece for the wedding, made by Smitten!

I wanted a big white flower with a touch of red, a few feathers, a small amount of netting, and all organic materials (ie no rhinestones etc.). I think she got it just right, don't you?

Coming soon... the ridiculously fun pieces for my gals.

Hair trial!

While I'm away from the office today bringing transit and walkability to the highways and strip malls of North Texas, I offer up photos of my hair trial during our mid-month planning trip to the Outer Banks.

As you can see, it's just as beachy-curly as I'd envisioned. Imagine a funky flower/feather creation in the back too... Smitten XOXO is hard at work as I type creating fab pieces for me and the girls. The stylist didn't add volume and curl to the top of my hair during the trial, but will do so for the wedding. This loose curly do took her all of 8 minutes, by the way, and she assures me I'll be deceptively carefree-looking (read: windproof) on the big day.

Random... see that spot of really wispy curly hair on the left side of my neck in the top photo? Does anyone else have those... and what do I do with it? If I kind of slick it into the rest of the normal hair will that look weird? But it looks weird as is, right?

Also (to change the subject in case that was awkward)... I've heard a few reports that our invitations have made it to mailboxes, so after one more day for the stragglers to make their way, I'll post them in full!

Red carpet love

I'm usually blown over by bold jewel-toned gowns, but last night I was swooning over all things pale. Is the wedding making that much of an influence, or was it truly the color story of the night? My three favorite gowns:

Flowy. Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli. I don't typically think of elegance when I think of Cavalli gowns (is that tactful enough?), but this one is divine. How is it possible that Taraji has a 14-year-old son, by the way? Amazing.

Structured. Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive. She looked spectacular in this dress. Head to toe perfection. Anne is quickly becoming a major red carpet icon, and this dress proves exactly why.

Architectural
. Marisa Tomei in Atelier Versace. Stunning. The folds of this gown are just ridiculous. I love Marisa's sense of style - while it's sometimes off, it's never, ever boring. Last night she nailed it.

As for hair... the divine Diane Lane is my new wedding hair model. If anyone sees better DL hair photos, send them over to me. Wavy updos unite!

On the snarky side? Kate, Slynnro, and I saw some bad hair, bad shoes, bad facelifts, and interesting hemlines. But I'd rather post pictures of prettiness. :-)

On that note, my favorite party pic from last night, featuring my two favorite screen goddesses. Does it get any better than Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep goofing off together?

New favorite wedding hair

Confession: I have a terrible hair vocabulary. In a recent e-mail to the bridesmaids, I described my ideal wedding hair as a "low, loose, curly bun-ish deal with flowers." See what I mean?

I just booked a March 16 hair consultation in the Outer Banks during my whirwind planning trip, so I have a month to find some concrete examples of what I want. I have wavy hair that has a tendency to get extremely big and curly on the beach, so I'm going to embrace nature rather than fight it and opt for a beachy style.

Here's my new favorite hair, on a bride rocking one of my previously established favorite dresses. Imagine it with a little more neck showing and some flowers woven in or one large flower that's visible from most angles. I kind of like the height on this style, too - the others I like are fairly flat up top, but this seems different. And bonus: her bridesmaid has one of the flower styles we've discussed for the ladies.

Loving Twigs & Honey

Lately I've been loving Twigs & Honey hairpieces. While my first instinct is to go with fresh flowers, my sister made a great point about gardenias to me last weekend - they tend to brown quickly. I'd been envisioning some combination of white and possibly red flowers, with a loose/curly/low updo. The idea of a custom Twigs & Honey piece - for me and the four girls - seems like a fantastic way to interject fun and color into our look.

I love the look of these two, even though they're a little more monochromatic that I might go with:

I am loving the color and pattern of these pieces (hello bridesmaids in polka dots!), especially since we want lots of pattern and texture in the wedding attire and decor.

All photos are from Twigs & Honey with the exception of the gorgeous pinky-peach piece, which came from the bride behind In This Instance.

Check out the Twigs & Honey blog and shop for more looks!

UPDATE: And headbands for flowergirls?! Oh yes.
