A rose after all?

We're making progress replacing the dahlia in my full-figured red flower wish list. It's been tough, though, because the in-season red flowers in late May are either not red enough (peonies) or best used as accent flowers (ranunculus). I dislike standard red roses, so that was never an option, and red gerberas seem too simple for the occasion. That said, our floral/decor guru urged me to think about garden roses as a dahlia alternative. Although I initially bristled at even the word "rose" (Oh, how Valentine's Day has destroyed that flower - in red at least - for many of us!), she's right - garden roses are fantastic. And I don't think of lame once-a-year bouquets at all when I look at these. Whoopee!

These are gorgeous! I'll have to show this to my florist. I am also an anti-rose person, but when I decided to use red as one of our main colors, I kind of didn't have a choice. I'm getting married in Oct. though so unless there's an early frost we should have SOME dahlias. These big roses are just b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!

GO DAHLIAS!!! I almost can't believe I'm getting married in the spring, I love fall flowers so much.

But thanks! The garden roses feel like a great compromise to me.

i saw that renee is your florist (I found your adorable blog via a google search for outer banks weddings). I'm getting married in corolla this sepetember and was CRUSHED when she told me that camellias were out of season. I too cannot stand basic roses and cringed when renee mentioned them, but after she pulled me out to her truck and showed me the garden rose im assuming she showed you as well I fell in love. Perfect happy not-cliche wedding flower! Yay!

I used pink garden roses, and that was all I carried...24 of them just tied together with a ribbon. It is pretty cool, because when you look at my pictures you can't even tell they are roses.

I also heard the word roses and immediately started thinking about how perfectly cheesy that was, but they turned out to be so pretty.

I am flower challenged, but I had no idea those were roses when I saw them and I think they look great--for what its worth!

I, also, had zero desire to carry roses. I fell in love with both peonies and dahlias. Unfortunately, I'm getting married in the winter, so no reach chance of getting either flower, but I found some great pics of roses that helped me get over my aversion to them.
